Design of care processes
The proposal focuses on reviewing the organization’s own professional practice within a center or type of facility in order to establish the work processes carried out by professionals.
As a result of this review, using a consensus methodology, the key work processes and subprocesses are established and diagrammed by an expert. This reflection requires the definition of common quality criteria and therefore promotes the standardization of practice, reducing unwanted variability between centers, services and even professionals.

General objective
- To carry out the (re)design of the key processes of the service or entity, so that they can be shared by all its members and serve as a basis for improvement initiatives.
Specific objectives
In this way, the organization itself determines the basic processes and the quality levels that must be achieved.
The work is carried out jointly by members of the contracting organization and professionals from the Avedis Donabedian Institute. The usual consensus methods in the field of continuous quality improvement are applied in this project. The Donabedian Institute provides methodological support and overall coordination to ensure the development of a homogeneous set of recommendations.
- A group of especially involved professionals works directly on the development of the recommendations, in what is considered the internal consensus phase. Critical analysis and the exchange of opinions among the members of this working group will allow the unification of quality criteria on relevant aspects of care.
- External consensus is also sought with the participation of a broader group of experts in the final phase of document review.
- Presentation of the project to executive management (if considered necessary)
- Preparation of the proposal for publication agreements, schedule, logistical needs, meeting venue, etc.
- Advice on appointing the working group
- Literature review
- Preparation of working documentation for the project: work development, method, schedule, group working documents…
- Communication and coordination activities with the members of the working group, initially and prior to each meeting
- Initial training session for the members of the working group
- Coordination of working meetings
- Methodological correction of the process diagrams produced by each member of the working group, prior to each group meeting (by email) and during meetings
- Methodological, technical and logistical design and coordination of the external review of the process diagrams
- Integration and analysis of responses; preparation of proposals for final modifications to the diagrams
- Drafting of the document that integrates the work carried out
- Presentation of the proposal and consensus with management
