Recent reforms of the long-stay care system' 11-12 January (Berlin)

Pilar Hilarión, deputy director of the FAD, attended as expert at the meeting on "Recent reforms of the long-stay care system" promoted by the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Union and the German Federal Ministry of Health, on the changes promoted in the latter country. The meeting was held in Berlin on 11 and 12 January 2018.

In recent years, there have been major changes in all European countries to ensure that people can stay at home for as long as possible. The objective is to develop quality and affordable long-term care systems with a special emphasis on:
- Needs identification and assessment
- Development of community services, including new semi-residential services
- Integration of social and health care

At the meeting, experts from 14 countries compared experiences and solutions they are implementing and developed a series of recommendations aimed at improving individualized and flexible care planning, The Ministry of Education and Science is responsible for the implementation of the National Plan of Action on Quality Assurance in the Information Society. The empowerment of individuals, families and caregivers becomes a fundamental work, with the articulation of the network of services.
