Dr. Charles Shaw (R.I.P)
We at the Avedis Donabedian Foundation extend our condolences for the passing of Dr. Charles Shaw on December 12th.
A physician by training, he was a charming person and a great professional who, from the very beginning, stood out for his advocacy of healthcare quality and the evaluation and accreditation of centers as a tool for continuous improvement.
Along with our President, Dr. Rosa Suñol, the founder of ISQua, an organization to which he dedicated a large part of his professional life in various positions, he always stood out for his interest in accreditation programs and the implementation of quality policies and plans, which he developed in more than 40 countries.
Among other achievements, he was national project manager on quality for the King's Fund Centre in the United Kingdom and one of the founders of the Hospital Accreditation Program in the United Kingdom (now CHKS). He later served as an independent consultant for the WHO, the World Bank, and the European Commission on external evaluation, clinical governance, and national quality policy and systems.
We mourn the loss of a great quality leader, but we will always remember his legacy and his contribution to the world of healthcare and the projects he shared with us.
