Launch of the COMPAR-EU platform
Evidence shows that self-management interventions (SMIs) are increasing exponentially, as is the need for strategies and tools to facilitate their implementation. The COMPAR-EU consortium partners are pleased to announce the launch of an informatics platform to support SMI decision-making for different end-users with the four relevant chronic diseases: type 2 diabetes, obesity, COPD, and heart failure.
The COMPAR-EU interactive platform features several products to support decision-making regarding self-management interventions.
Interactive Summary of Findings (iSoF) tables
The iSoF helps guide developers and healthcare professionals in finding and understanding key findings regarding the effectiveness of SMIs for core outcome sets (COS) considered relevant to stakeholders across the four chronic diseases.
Evidence-Based Decision-Making (EtD) Frameworks and Recommendations
The purpose of this framework is to assist policymakers and administrators in making decisions about SMIs targeting the four chronic conditions when more than two options are available. EtD frameworks can inform the pros and cons of each intervention, ensure that the criteria that drive a decision are considered, help structure the discussion, and form the basis for transparent decisions for those affected by a policy decision. Ad hoc panels have formed teams to formulate recommendations for each condition using the EtD frameworks.
Patient Decision-Making Aids
These tools are designed to assist in shared decision-making between healthcare professionals and patients regarding SMIs that are tailored to the patient's preferences for specific outcomes or intervention characteristics.
Network Meta-Analysis Results, Cost-Effectiveness, and Contextual Factors
Specific results derived from the network meta-analysis, the cost-effectiveness analysis, and the interactive report of contextual factors influencing the implementation of SMIs have also been integrated into the platform.
Repositories of RCTs, Tools, and Interventions
This section is especially useful for researchers and clinicians. It presents a catalog of interventions classified by taxonomy, a catalog of self-management tools (mainly composed of PROMs and PREMs) to assess the most relevant outcomes (COS), and a catalog of randomized controlled trials that have analyzed SMIs.
About COMPAR-EU
The COMPAR-EU project aims to identify and compare the most effective and cost-effective self-management interventions (SMIs) for adults in Europe living with one of four high-priority chronic conditions: type 2 diabetes, obesity, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and heart failure. SMIs help patients increase their skills and confidence in managing their chronic condition with the aim of promoting and maintaining their health. Our core product is an innovative informatics platform that features self-management tools to support decision-making about self-management interventions for various end-users, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, guideline developers, and patients.
